The past 24 March 2019, El Mercurio newspaper in its Economy and Business section published an article about the Vantaz Report of female participation in mining.
Due to an involuntary error, the note didn’t specify how the data included in the analysis was obtained. In Chilean companies, the analysis focused on the mining council members. Global firms with operations in Chile (Freeport Mc-Moran, Glencore, KGHM, Kinross and Rio Tinto) were excluded because they didn´t have a country detail of their female staff.
Minera Centinela, El Abra, and Minera Los Pelambres were also set aside because they don`t have disaggregated information.
The study consider Antofagasta Minerals, Codelco, Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi, Minera Candelaria, Minera Escondida, Minera Lumina Copper Chile, Pampa Norte and Teck Chile.
Although SQM doesn´t do copper extraction, the company was also considered because of its relevant place in the Chilean lithium market.
The information to build the report was taken from the companies’ annual and 2017 sustainability reports – which was the last public data available at the time the analysis was made- and their respective websites.
