This survey analyzes the mining sector's perception of the economy, the industry and the business environment.
Santiago de Chile, 9 de abril de 2025. In order to know the expectations and perceptions of the different actors in the mining world regarding key issues such as investment, costs, prices, employment, growth, new projects and critical inputs, the mining consulting firm Vantaz Group and the Center for Copper and Mining Studies (CESCO) launched the seventh edition of the “Signals of Mining Chile” index at CESCO Week.
This year, the survey includes questions on the main variables affecting the sector, as well as a look at the impact of an eventual escalation in the trade war and new tariffs. The survey will be available on the CESCO and Vantaz Group websites, with results to be presented in July 2025.
Daniela Desormeaux, Director of Research at Vantaz Group, explained that “in this edition we want to go a step further, delving into technical aspects of the sector and how global signals are being interpreted, especially in a context of trade tensions. We will evaluate the potential impact of eventual tariffs and expectations regarding the evolution of costs. Having a history for this study is a great added value, as it allows us to compare results with previous editions, identify trends and draw conclusions about the cycles that characterize the sector.”
Along these lines, Jorge Cantallopts, executive director of CESCO, stated that “this index represents a valuable tool to understand in depth the evolution of the mining sector year after year, and this is no exception. The value of the continuity of the study allows us to observe trends and cycles in the industry, which in turn facilitates more informed decision-making by the actors in the mining ecosystem. This type of initiative not only promotes informed dialogue, but also contributes to strengthening the strategic planning of the sector at a key moment for its development and sustainability”.
A new feature of this edition is the addition of a technical section focused on the industry's operational challenges. This includes questions on the main “bottlenecks” that could slow down the development of new projects, as well as an assessment of expectations regarding the costs of critical inputs, components and labor for the next 12 months.
