Young chilean robot creators participate in contest in Japan

The students attended the Robo One International Competition in Yokohama, Japan, where they represented our country and competed against groups from Taiwan and South Korea.

After participating in Robo One, organized by the Biped Robot Association, Miguel González and Sebastián Cofré, students of Civil Electronic Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, visited the offices of Vantaz Group. González and Cofré, together with Sebastián Herrera, make up the Factors Errors group, which thanks to the support of Vantaz Group and other companies, were able to participate in this important international competition.

After their return from Japan, they visited Vantaz Group where they spoke with Juan Cariamo, founding partner and Co Ceo, and Pedro Gómez, partner and Technology Director, with whom they shared their impressions regarding the importance of innovation and technological development. On the occasion, both executives invited the young talents to think about taking the next step so that their inventions could be transformed into solutions for a productive sector, such as mining.

For their part, the budding engineers commented on their experiences, especially in Japanese society, where they pointed out, for example, that training in advanced technologies begins in elementary school. In fact, most of the Japanese participants against whom the Chileans competed were high school students, not university students.

The students also recognized that going to Japan was a cultural shock, as they explained, "There, in the competitions, they try to give the robot an identity. This was very strong in Japan, for them robots have a soul".

Vantaz support

Going to compete in a distant place is a challenging task, for this reason the students thanked the support “literally Vantaz gave us the energy, their support fell from the sky. We had the tickets but we did not have the money to be there, we are not people with money, we are students, that is why we asked for support”. Finally, they emphasized that Vantaz's support came at the right time “the support helped us to be calm. They were very quick, they understood that we were against time”. It should be noted that given their successful participation and performance at the Latin American level, in March 2024 they have the possibility of visiting the Asian country again.
