"Woman in Mining” 2024 study will monitor sector's progress in gender equity

In its previous version, an improvement was observed in the general level of women's satisfaction with their jobs, however, at the same time, the perception of inequality increased.

Santiago, Chile, July 19, 2024. The mining consulting firm Vantaz Group, together with Spencer Stuart, Red Ingenieras de Minas de Chile and Acción Empresas, launched the seventh version of the study “Women in Mining” 2024, which seeks to evaluate the perceptions of both men and women regarding the participation of women in the mining industry, considering four dimensions: motivation, equity, professional development and leadership commitment.

The objective of the study is to understand the current stage in which women are inserted in the mining sector, in order to contribute to the conversation on gender equity and to promote measures in favor of diversity in the national mining industry.

Daniela Desormeaux, Director of Studies at Vantaz Group, indicated that one of the most important trends in previous years of the study is that “women do recognize that mining has contributed to their lives and that it has been positive to enter it, however, there are still gaps in the perception of equity. There is a majority perception that men have greater possibilities of exercising leadership roles or developing a better career in the industry”.

Regarding expectations for the 7th version, Desormeaux commented: “We expect a high level of participation. We want to evaluate the levels of job satisfaction. Last year, a large majority of women stated that they were looking for new development opportunities, despite being satisfied with their current employment.”

Responses are confidential. Results will be reported in early September 2024.
